Scythe for grass

Grass sickle, billhook;

Professional grass scythes are curved blade tools used to cut grass, especially in larger areas or in terrain that is difficult to reach with a traditional lawnmower. Grass scythes are prized for their effectiveness in cutting tall grass, dense vegetation.

Sickles or billhooks?

Scythes and billhooks are both cutting tools used for agricultural or garden care work, but they have significant differences in both shape and use. Sickles are cutting tools composed of a sharp curved blade and a long handle. The blade is designed to be sharpened on one side only, allowing a rotary motion while cutting.

Billhook are cutting tools composed of a sharp, rectangular blade mounted on a long handle. The blade is sharpened on both sides and is not curved like that of scythes. Billhooks are therefore generally used for cutting thicker branches, bushes, small trees or for heavier pruning jobs.

Simply put, scythes are best suited for cutting herbaceous plants, tall grasses or hay, while billhooks are used for cutting thicker, woodier branches. Both tools require some skill in use to be used effectively.

Types of grass sickles;

Field scythe;

This type has a long blade, slightly curved and sharp on one side. Used to cut tall grass, hay or herbaceous plants on large and uneven terrain.

Hedge scythe;

It has a short, curved blade with serrations along the edge. The latter is used to cut hedges, shrubs and plants with precision, maintaining a uniform and clean shape.

Scythe with Spade;

It has a sharp crescent-shaped blade with a wider end. Used to cut hay or dry grass, often used in harvesting processes.

Each type of scythe has its own specific shape and functionality, suitable for certain types of cutting or specific needs.
